A Dandelion Walk

Having been excited with the new found skill of making dandelion curls, a group of children wanted to collect dandelions. The front gardens provided a perfect place for a dandelion walk. Oodles and oodles of the bright yellow flowers and fluffy, white moon-shaped seed balls have found their home among the flowering shrubs and blanket of lawn.

Long and short stems were plucked. Seeds took flight as they were blown. Time from dandelion picking was taken to conquer a boulder and stand grandly above all others.

With plenty of dandelions for all, children began to record the length of their stems.

They carefully chose which stems they would measure and record. The long ones were the most popular.
The length of the stems were measured with cubes. The rulers were not long enough! This called for a measuring tape.

13 cubes long and 29 centimeters long.

Once measured, the stem was used to make dandelion curl soup.

The children decided to make this a centre all morning.
Colourful curls and counting!
And it all started with a dandelion walk.
