Colour Mixing

The light table offered the perfect opportunity  

for the children's exploration of colours.

When presented with the chance to experiment with oil and water, as colour was added to the different containers, the children wanted to mix the colours together to make new colours.

Time and again, the children want to make new colours.

Food dye is added to the water centre...the children want to make new colours.

Paint is set at the art easel...the children want to make new colours.

Paint is set on the art table...the children want to make new colours.

Experiments to explore sinking and floating turn into...

the children wanting to make new colours!

Nicole, the university student who has been a part of our team for a few weeks, decided on an activity that would be all about 
letting the children explore their interest.

She read 'Mix It Up' by Herve Tullet. 
He shows some pretty crazy ways to make new colours!
Then she set up a tray on the light table and let the children make and 
mix colours all morning long.

They dripped and dropped and poured and mixed.

How many colours are in a rainbow?

What colour is the ocean?

When dark colours are mixed, is the new colour dark too?

What about light colours?

Which three colours do you need to make every other colour?

Can you make black?

Can you make white?

What colours can you mix to make the colour of your skin?

 Eyes? Hair? A grape? An ape? 

???
