Sensory Play

Why are there sensory bins in kindergarten?
Think back to some of your strongest memories...you can almost hear, smell, feel, taste what was happening all around you. You recall each face and colour and 
the smallest of details.

For our youngest children, growth is happening at breakneck speed...and all the senses are developing at the same time. Sensory bins are a wonderful way of exploring materials that we are sure will excite the senses!

Then there's always the added bonus of math language like 
full, fill, empty, more, sort, alike, same and counting.


Science words like faster, slower, predict, guess, watch and concepts like cause and effect, gravity, change, prediction and observation awaken deeper thinking.




Children learn how to share, take turns, cooperate and collaborate at the sensory bin.




Descriptive language and vocabulary is increased as children talk to each other and teachers engage with them in their play.





Sensory bins are in kindergarten because...
well, because it just makes sense!
