Our Grasshopper Inquiry

Mount Suzuki has been exploding with crickets and grasshoppers and beetles and the children have been thrilled to explore them! During our outside time many friends have been eager to try and catch these tricky little creatures!
We spent some time outdoors and had a contest to see who could catch the most!
The children were thrilled to hold them in their closed hands and feel them hopping around! This was a great lesson in how to be respectful of nature and take good care of living things!

We placed the crickets and grasshoppers in a large container so they could be brought indoors and explored further. The children were eager to learn about what they ate and how they lived.

We used many resources to help us learn more and recorded these facts in the science area.

Some children were even inspired to create a habitat. It's so much fun to explore real life things and then learn more through play!
