Natural Material Designs

I am not a teacher, but an awakener.
~ Robert Frost ~

What would the children do when they came upon this display?

There is no wrong way to interact with open materials!

The natural materials invited exploration.

Would any children sort the materials? Match colours?

The activity became centered around
opening the seed pods and making designs.

Fingers were strengthened as they set about their hard work.
Fingers that are getting ready for printing and building and
all of the work of childhood!

The seed pods were emptied and designs filled the tree cookie surfaces.

In this design, Emmy used the light coloured seeds to make a face
and the darker coloured seeds were used to make the hair.

A pattern began to emerge when Nancie was using the seeds.

Abigail and Laila made many designs using closed shapes.

 Awakening the children to possibilities.
Awakening ourselves to the amazing capabilities of our learners.
Awakening, observing and pointing the way to learning.
