Our Market Trip

 We do lots of baking and cooking in our classroom so it naturally leads to discussions about food. We decided a great field trip would be to visit our local market to look first hand at local food and talk to the people who work at the market.

Parents who participated on the trip were a vital component educating the students in their groups about the names of fruits and vegetables and explaining the varieties of meat. This small group attention is what makes the trip so fun for everyone. The students learned that some items are sold by kilograms and some are sold by unit.

We brought the cameras so the children could take their own photos of what they were interested in.





Students were introduced to the meat counters and learned about the types of meat that are available.







We were on the hunt for fruits and vegetables that were all different colours. We had some wonderful discussions on all the different things that children were experiencing at the market.




The market is so different from a grocery store. The smells and sounds and sights wake up our senses!

We've got the perfect mix of produce to stock our Suzuki Market in the wonderful world of kindergarten. We'll explore our purchases as we chop things up and taste new flavours.  The best thing of all is that we ended up with the perfect ingredients for 'Stone Soup'!
