Stone Soup?

Just like the folklore tale of a pot of boiling water that begins with a single stone to make Stone Soup, little by little all the ingredients of a marvelous soup are added by working together in cooperation and anticipation of a shared feast!

The children prepared the vegetables. Washing, dicing, chopping, peeling. The wonderful world of kindergarten is filled with great cooks that are used to working in the kitchen! What a colourful, inviting bowl of fresh vegetables they prepared to add to the pot of water with a stone sitting on the bottom.

All the vegetables we purchased at the market were used for our wonderful soup. The colour, smell and taste of fresh produce is so inviting. We couldn't wait to add more ingredients. A little of this and a lot of that... just like in the story. The children were excited to make their own Stone Soup. Soup made by everyone is the BEST!
The fresh herbs were just the touch to give the soup a delectable flavour. The children were interested in talking about the herbs and why they might be added to different foods.

While some of the children were busy preparing the soup, others prepared fruit to offer for a sweet, tasty dessert.

The children learned about the importance of washing the veggies, peeling by holding the peeler on an angle and peeling away from their fingers and body, holding the end of the carrot and chopping at the other end.

And every good cook knows how valuable it is to taste a bit as you go along!
Some children tasted new flavours and textures. Others were anxious to taste familiar ones they knew they'd enjoy.

So often, 'cooking' and 'love' are used in the same sentence. There is a special connection and liveliness that is shared when we prepare a meal and eat together.
